The fee is capped at $15 per $100 borrowed: $75 on a $500 loan over two weeks, repaid in one payment on your next payday.
No separate provincial licensing. The regulator is the Financial and Consumer Services Commission.
A payday loan fits a genuine one-off gap with a repayment your next pay can absorb. If the gap repeats every month, the product that fits is not a payday loan.
Up to 30% of the net pay shown on your most recent pay stub, to a maximum of $1,500. Only Manitoba shares a limit this strict; most provinces allow 50%. On a $2,000 paycheque, your New Brunswick ceiling is $600.
Before you take a payday loan, every licensed New Brunswick lender must present an educational tool comparing what your loan costs against a credit card cash advance over time. You must receive a copy. It exists because the payday fee, $14 per $100 over two weeks, works out to many times a cash advance's annual rate, and the province wants that visible before you sign, not after.
Check FCNB's public licensed payday lender list. Online lenders need the same licence as storefronts and must display their licence number at the top of their New Brunswick page. No licence on the list means no protection under the province's rules, and no reason to proceed.
