Personal Loans in the Northwest Territories

One application. 9 lenders.

You can borrow $15 to $35,000 from nine lenders in the Smarter Loans network that serve the Northwest Territories, through one application, from 0% on the smallest advances up to the 35% federal cap. Six pay out within 24 hours and three within the hour, eight consider a score under 560, and income minimums run from $1,000 to $2,000 a month from any regular source. Every one lends online, and the money arrives by e-transfer, so a borrower in Inuvik is served the same way as one in Yellowknife. On our platform in the first half of 2026, Northwest Territories residents asked for $487 on average for an everyday advance under $1,500. The territory has no payday lending regime, so the 35% federal cap is the only rate ceiling. Rates checked August 2026.

Which lenders offer personal loans in the Northwest Territories?

Nine in the Smarter Loans network, from $15 advances to $35,000 instalment loans at rates from 0% on the smallest fee-priced advances up to the 35% federal cap. Every one lends online, which in a territory of small communities and one city is the whole point: the application, the decision and the deposit happen from your phone, and a borrower in Inuvik or Hay River is served the same way as one in Yellowknife. Six of the nine pay out within 24 hours, three within the hour and all nine within two days; eight consider a score under 560 and one wants a fair score or better; income minimums run from $1,000 to $2,000 a month from any regular source.

How much do people in the Northwest Territories borrow?

On our platform in the first half of 2026, Northwest Territories residents asked for $487 on average for an everyday advance under $1,500; too few personal loan applications came from the territory to publish an average. Use that to check your own request: a request around $500 is the ordinary case at the everyday scale, priced by fee rather than APR, and a larger loan is priced by your score.

What rules protect you in the Northwest Territories?

One that matters and one that is missing. The federal criminal interest rate caps every consumer loan at 35% APR, and no lender listed prices above it. What the territory does not have is a payday lending regime: elsewhere a provincial regime lets a payday lender charge $14 for every $100 borrowed for two weeks, which is far above 35% as an annual rate; without a regime that product cannot be priced here. The practical result is that every loan available to you is priced as an APR under the cap or as a flat fee on an advance, and the six lenders that pay out within 24 hours are on the online loans in the Northwest Territories page.

What do you need to qualify?

Income of at least $1,000 to $2,000 a month depending on the lender, from any regular source, and the label you give it decides which lenders see the application: full-time, rotational, self-employed, on disability or on benefits. Three months of bank statements, read through your online banking login, because the lenders listed decide on deposits before the score. A Northwest Territories address and a bank account the money can be sent to. No employment letter, no interview. On $5,000 over 36 months, 20% costs about $1,689 in interest and 35% about $3,142, so the rate you are placed at matters more than the approval.

Before you apply

  • Enter the amount you need, not the most you might get; it decides the product.
  • Know your income label and the day it arrives; rotational work paid on a fixed schedule is regular income, and say so.
  • Have your online banking login ready. The decision is made on your statements.
  • Ask for the total cost in dollars, not just the rate.
  • Apply once. Our application reaches all nine lenders and is sent where you are most likely to qualify; more than one application in a week counts against you with all of them.

Every personal lender in the network is on the personal loans in Canada page, and the lenders that lend below 560 across the network are on the bad credit loans in Canada page.

Can I get a personal loan in the Northwest Territories with bad credit?

Yes. Eight of the nine lenders listed consider a score under 560, and the decision is made on three months of bank statements more than on the score; a poor score is priced toward the 35% cap rather than declined.

What is the most a lender can charge in the Northwest Territories?
